Pay it Forward!

Pay It Forward Day

December 1st, 2010

‘Tis the Season! A random act of kindness goes a long way so…

PAY IT FORWARD!!!

What can you do?

ON DEC. 1st...

• Pay for someone’s cup of coffee…

• Buy someone some groceries…

• Get the next person’s gas…

• Help someone out…

• Donate something…

• Be creative!!!

When you do something for someone there’s a good chance they’ll do something for someone else. If not, at least you’ve done a good deed for someone.

So on December 1st share some kindness and spread some joy! It can be as little as a few dollars or as much as you want. No one needs to know!

#8 Treasured Memories: Grandma Mayme

When I think of Christmas morning growing up
One of my favorite pictures in my mind
is
Grandma Mayme
walking passed our big picture window
to come to our home to
open gifts.
We could not open gifts until Grandma Mayme
was there.
She just lived next door.
Sometimes it felt like FOREVER,
 waiting.
It was the same every year,
Watching for Grandma.
I love my dear sweet Grandma.
As long as I lived at home,
this was one of the pictures of Christmas.
For this memory I am Thankful!

Thankful Thursday: FOR THANKSGIVING!

Today is a flood of Thanksgiving Memories:
This morning after skeet shooting with some of our church 'family' Mr. Clark and I were reflecting on Thanksgiving day's past. In a brief overview... some good, great and  really ugly times! Like the Thanksgiving our water main broke and all of our family and relatives spent a cold 2 days in the mud repairing it. Which adds to innumerable times we have been rescued by amazing relatives. *THAT'S YOU UNCLE BOB! UNCLE DAN AND GRAMPS. The Thanksgiving spent in the hospital while my father underwent emergency bi-pass surgery. Ooooo - the Thanksgiving Elk Hunting because I didn't want to celebrate after loosing both parents. (Sorry Kids, that was selfish of me. ) We all discovered how important family traditions are in our life.  Being together as family and relatives means so much. Among our favorite memories was Thanksgiving at Lake Powell. Elyse didn't think so (she is our  VERY traditional girl)  We recognized how 'BLESSED' we've been and the wonderful memories we share.
We are all so FORTUNATE to live in this land where so many have sacrificed so much for our COMFORT.  For the FREEDOMS we enjoy. To live in a time where we have the technology we have. Among my many blessings I have to say. I am THANKFUL for my new friends along with those life-long friends. For My special friend, Nita. Life is full of  "IT WILL BE OK" because of you!  She's stuck by my side through all the GOOD and really BAD! I am so so Blessed.  My blogger friends are so much a part of my life. My life is far better for the connection we've shared. To Marianne and SandyO. Thank you for sharing your life with me. You make a difference to me EVERYDAY. Some day I hope to meet both of you.  I  feel blessed to have had the opportunity to live in different states that have allowed us to have some amazing people in our lives.
So THANKFUL for the family we have. I feel so fortunate to have the association with all of our extended family that have been  so close to us. So, so blessed to have the children I have. They are and always will be our PRIDE and STRENGTH. So Blessed to have a husband with a kind, loving heart. Our journey together has been an adventure!
So Thankful to have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. For his Life and Death and Resurrection for us all.
For all things I can't begin to list-- I AM THANKFUL!
P.S For those that this day is a very hard day. Our Prayers are for you. Have  a BLESSED THANKSGIVING MY FRIENDS and FAMILY.
XO

Sweet Potatoe Casserole

Can't wait to try this one!  Doesn't every Thanksgiving Meal  have: Sweet Potato Casserole ?

4 cups cooked sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

(or 2, 29 oz cans drained of syrup)

1 cup white sugar

4 eggs, beaten

3/4 cup butter, melted

1 c evaporated milk

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground nutmeg

2 cups miniature marshmallows

1 cup flaked coconut

Topping:

1 1/2 cup crushed cornflake cereal

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecan

3/4 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease 9/13 casserole dish.

In a large bowl, using a mixer, mash the sweet potatoes and mix in the sugar, beaten eggs, 3/4 cup melted butter, evaporated milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, marshmallows and coconut. Scoop the mixture into prepared casserole dish.

Bake 35 minutes or until sweet potatoes are slightly firm (like a cheesecake.)

In a small bowl, mix all topping ingredients. Spread over top of baked casserole.

Return casserole to oven and bake additional 10 minutes.

ksl.com - High School Heroes: American Fork teen running past tragedies

On my last blog post I commented on the kids that I work with. "Imagine the worse case scenario." Well here is a perfect example - with one exception, our students don't have caring families like this one to make a difference. ksl.com - High School Heroes: American Fork teen running past tragedies  PS--- THIS IS THE TOWN I GREW UP IN!  GO AMERICAN FORK, UTAH!!!  GO CAVEMEN!

Thankful Thursday: For the kids I work with.

A blessing to recognize how lucky I was to have the family I had. Both while a child and raising my own children.
 The teasing...
yes, the pinching the backs of my legs after being pinned down!
(Thanks Kent! Seriously... that was the worst of it!)
I love my Brothers!
I remember at age 7, packing my suitcase and running away( because I had to make my bed!).
I didn't even make it 20 ft. from our home because my suitcase was too heavy.
(I think my Dad came and carried it home for me!)
I thought my life was so horrible!
Thankyou Mom and Dad
For giving me
such a WONDERFUL life filled with
Structure and Love.
A home where I was secure.
Thank you to our own kids,
who fought (like everyone else)
but continually show love to each other.
For the structure and security we had in our family.

Oh I wish the kids I am working with could have  it as horrible as I did!
Honestly,
I can't imagine
how much these kids experience.
My heart aches  for them.
Think of the worse possible scenario.
That's what I see everyday.
Prayers for each one of them.
For all the blessings of a good life I have had.
for Loving Parents.
I AM THANKFUL.
Tears.

Thankful Tuesday: Cinnamon/Sugar Play Pie

 MMmmmm
Cinnamon Sugar Play Pie:
Left over trimmings from pie making that was left for children to play with...
The best memory?
Standing on a chair next to Mom 'helping'.
Just roll it out to what ever shape.
Heap sugar, sprinkle cinnamon and then spread pats of butter all over it.
Stand at the oven.
Peer open the door to see it bubbling and brown
Share the anticipation of the first bite.
The  play pie melting and some times burning in your mouth when rushing to eat it.
I think my Mom had to have made a zillion pies.
My favorite:
Her Lemon Meringue Pie
She piled the Meringue ever so high and I LOVED  consuming every ounce of Meringue and leaving the Lemon for someone else!
She often made Meat Turnovers.
So she constantly had left over pie trimmings. I don't ever remember a time we didn't have Cinnamon/Sugar Play Pie from left over pie crust.
 A SIMPLY THING
yet a warm, comforting memory.
I continue to make Cinnamon/Sugar 'Play Pie'
I'm  sure my kids will continue the same tradition.
Making Pies just isn't the same with out
Cinnamon/Sugar 'Play Pie'
For this memory and tradition passed down generation to generation.
I AM THANKFUL!

Thankful Tuesday: I Touched Shoulders With You!

There's a comforting thought at the close of the day,
When I am weary and lonely and sad,
That sort of grips hold of my crusty old heart,
And it bids it be merry and glad.
It gets in my soul and it drives out the blues,
And finally thrills through and through.
It is just a sweet memory that chants the refrain:
"I'm glad I touched shoulders with you!"
Did you know you were brave, did you know you were strong?
Did you know that you helped when I erred?
Did you know there was one leaning hard?
Did you know that I waited and listened and prayed?
And was cheered by your simplest word?
Did you know that I longed for the smile on your face,
For the sound of your voice ringing true?
Did you know I grew stronger and better because
I had merely touched shoulders with you?
I am glad that I live, that I battle and strive
For the place that I know I must fill;
I am thankful for sorrows, I'll meet with a grin
What fortunes may send, good or ill.
I may not have wealth, I may not be great,
But I know I shall always be true,
For I have in my life that courage you gave,
When once I touched shoulders with you.

Thankful Thursday: To be TIRED...

For the past 6 months
I've been lacking in the
Sleep department.
I think it's a
50 thing???
But I've needed
x-tra-
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's
You know- the nights when you wake up and you can't get back to sleep. Drives me CRAZY!
So the blessing of being back to work?
I'm EXHAUSTED!
So the last few weeks I've actually been able to
SLEEP
all night...
For this I am THANKFUL!
p.s. I SPOKE TOO SOON...
BAaaaa
I guess I'll just
embrace the 50's thing and live with
Sleepless Nights...
shhhhhh I'm not talking about my mishap yesterday. The blessing from the scratch and scrape event? No one was hurt.
for this I am THANKFUL

Thankful Tuesday: For the RIGHT to VOTE

I'm a fanatic in somethings...
I attribute it to my Parents
who had STRONG Feelings about our CONSTITUTION
FREEDOM
and our GOD GIVEN
PRIVILEGE
 TO
VOTE!
I don't take it for Granted.
I want my vote to say,
I am watching you!
Those elected are accountable to "we the people"
By Voting we show that we take a stand for our country.
I am thankful for those who fought and died so that I can exercise my Right as a Woman and a Citizen to
let my voice be heard.
FOR THIS I AM THANKFUL.
