We Remember!

Just got word that my good friend and neighbor back home put flowers on my parents grave. She does this often. So touching. One day while in Utah, the kids and I were standing at her mothers grave when a man stopped by and said my name. It was my friends Father. He goes to the grave of his wife every day. His daughter told me that he can hardly bare the thought that his wife is gone. Even 5 years later. We had AWESOME MOTHERS. Being neighbors they were good friends and both of them great example's of great women. Yesterday in Sunday School we were on the subject of Ruth in the Old Testament. The subject was brought up HOW WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED? Great thought. The teacher pointed out that there is still time to change how we will be remembered :) YAY!!! Because this week has been a week of remembering our ancestors. I REMEMBER, and I'm Thankful for those who have went before us to make our lives comfortable and free. Here is a poem, my friend just posted that sums what I've been thinking this week...
The definition of Success:
By: Bessie Anderson Stanley 1904
" He has achieved success who has lived well,
Laughed often,
and Loved much;
who has enjoyed trust of pure women,
the respect of intelligent men
and the love of little children,
who has filled his niche
and accomplished his task;
who has left the world better than he found it,
whether by an improved poppy,
a perfect poem,
or a rescued soul;
who has never lacked appreciation of earths beauty
or failed to express it,
who has always looked for the best in others
and given the best he had,
whose life was an inspiration,
whose memory a benediction."
Discribes those people I love to a T, We will always REMEMBER YOU,
To Mom's and Dad, Grandma's and Grandpa's, Neighbors and Friends
who has passed on.
WE MISS YOU
WITH LOVE,
The Mills Family

Thankful Thursday: For a Legacy of My Grandparents

It has been REMEMBER THE BAKERS Week! This is my Grandfather and my Grandmother. Although I have never met my Grandfather, I am learning that he was a man of integrity. He had a mink farm and rabbit farm. He was into cattle befor he moved to American Fork.Dad said He Never stopped skinning Minks and Rabbits selling the meat and skins to PINKERTON'S MARKET. They cleared their property. Dad also worked feverishly chopping down Chinese Elm trees and Walnut trees on their 'Bakers acre'. The hardest wood to split with an ax. Grandpa remodeled their home. He was a jack of all trades. My Grandfather was a GE appliance store owner. I heard stories of his special deliveries. The one devastating delivery... a refridgerator. He had a heart attack while delivering and died at age 52. He was a happy go lucky kind of guy. My Grandmother was an ELITE lady. She was a perfectionist. An AMAZING cook and entertainer. I have all of her crystal party sets and special crystal jam sets. I CHERISH THEM. Don't you love her apron! She had tons of aprons. And she was one of those people that ironed her sheets! Her house was always articulate. She had a special talent that is almost a lost art. SHE COULD TAT! It is like crocheting but more intricate. My mom always said that I was the most like my Grandma Mayme. I remember when woman were allowed to wear pants. Grandma threw a fit and said she would never be comfortable wearing pants. I think that must be where I got the love of wearing dresses! Which also was passed down to our daughter. She loves dresses too! Such fond memories of Grandma Baker. She lived next door. We were blessed to have her in our lives. One thing I hope that I am like her is, she was a devoted wife. A quality that I think I share. I come by it naturally! Love them both. Thankful for the legacy of AWESOME GRANDPARENTS

Thankful Tuesday: A life full circle

This is my Great, Great Grandfather George Baker. He came to America from Wineford, Sommerset, England. Great, Great Grandpa George was among the Martin Handcart Company that ventured to Utah in the 1800's * see (Utah Pioneers and Prominent Men 1847-1868) Once he arrived Brigham Young asked him to help settle the south end of the state of Utah. My great, great Grandfather George settled in the Saint George area. One of his Son's William Benjamin was married to Elizabeth Betsy Larson and they had 5 children (one of them a Doctor in St. George. (Frank?) Elizabeth died and William Benjamin then married Fidelelia Maudesley Baker. (My Grandfathers Parents.) They had 12 children. William and some of the Maudesley family began a ranch in Pine Valley. Known as 'the Baker Ranch' and also a reservoir still known as the 'Baker' Reservoir. It was handed down to his children --we think it was Frank? In the 1940's this person sold the water rights to 'Utah Power and Light. And then BLM took over the land. This is where it takes a turn. Not sure what happened but it wasn't a good thing. *In my opinion, probably a little step family issue that left some bitter feelings and divided the family. My Grandfather (Glen Wiford) with his wife Mayme Jones Baker moved to American Fork, Utah where he started a GE appliance store. They had 2 children, my Dad- Glen Robert and David Baker. He was known in American Fork as a HONEST, HARD WORKING Man. They bought a home in American Fork that was historical being a SCHOOL HOUSE. People thought they were crazy. They remodeled it and it became a BEAUTIFUL HOME. Still Beautiful today.
Now the exciting part... Today I received an inbox from f/b from my Brother Blair. One of our second cousins (we never knew) is searching for any info on our history, therefore found my brothers and I. WOW!
Today I've been on cloud 9! I've always had the itch to search for our ancestors and haven't had much success. I do have quite a bit of genealogy from my mother who researched the Baker side. Not too much history. But to get to know 'living' ancestors is a bonus prize!
So thankful today. That the wife of our cousin once removed put the desire for more knowledge about our ancestors in her husbands heart. For starting a fire in all of us! For my Brothers love for his ancestors that loved what he loves, ranching etc. and learned their story. He searched out the ranch. Found evidence of the ol' corral. History lives :) From here on to forever we can learn more about where our family. is. (and they are now my f/b friends! LOL because f/b reconnects a long line of family! Today I bet our Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers and Great Great Grandfathers are smiling! And finally life comes back full circle. For this I am thankful!

REPOST: Flash Back Friday Too: A "Rare" Life

This is just a random pic. My Dad, my Brother Kent, My Brother Blair, My Mom and Me!
Our Home in Amercian Fork, Utah. That my Dad built. I am blessed to have had a wonderful childhood. We never moved. A rare thing! --my own kids would have liked that! My Dad had the same job all his life. A rare thing, although we have been blessed in our married life. So far never going without a paycheck. My Dad actually had a guaranteed retirement( I think it was called a pension?) Hee, hee don't hear that word anymore! Now we are lucky to have a 401K. Divorce wasn't a word I knew about. I knew my parents weren't perfect, but I knew you were suppose to work it out and stick it out. A rare thing anymore. My Grandmother lived next door. I would love to have my grandkids next door! We had a life that was pretty secure and stable. No worry about Health Care, Social Security, Jobs. And loosing our Constitution! A rare thing anymore. A RARE LIFE!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I CAN"T BELIEVE IT! CONGRATULATIONS TO TWO NIECES ( Collette and Shannon) ON THEIR GRADUATION! WOW! YAY CELEBRATE! Remember Uncle Jark and Aunt Shinner LOVE YOU TO PIECES!

Thankful Thursday: Assembly Required-- Challenged too!

It's hereditary! Yes, my niece, (from her earlier post on f/b) I should claim the prize of being 'the most' assembly required --challenged! OK, this is a hangup with me... I CANNOT READ INSTRUCTIONS--- I have very little comprehension. AND I am HORRIBLE at putting things together. I can't even untie knots etc. But things change when YOU 'HAVE' TOO! And things are changing because I am Mr. Clark's eyes. So we bought a hose reel (assembly required) It was pretty hilarious, as we sat in the garage and I tried to read the instructions to him, and we attempted to put it together. Honestly, there was laughter and tears! It was a scary thing for me. Can't imagine what Mr. Clark is going through. He talks to me about it. I try seeing what he doesn't see by taking off my glasses. For now we can depend on each other. Ya- We both feel fortunate. I am blessed that I don't have the stark realization that he is gone and I have to figure it all out on my own. And so vice-versa. He is so patient and I am thankful that we can be a team but also that he is teaching me a different role. I know that anything is possible. I CAN LEARN. I can gain the confidence to do the things I need to. In turn it helps him not seem so helpless. Today he was talking to a good friend of his that also lost his eye sight. Mr. Clark said, "hasn't this challenge brought you and your wife even closer?" and Ty said. "she is the key to the gate that opens my prison" This brings me to tears. HA-- thinking about it. I also feel he rescues me back! So thankful we have each other. Thankful to God to give me this heads up to be more conscious of things around me! So thankful for Lessons I am learning and 'Assembly Required' won't frighten me ... eventually!

Thankful Tuesday: For Improvement

We have just started Mr. Clark's 3rd eye treatment. The results of the eye test... HIS EYES ARE IMPROVING. Although each treatment puts his body into trauma--- His sugar stays high (like he has an infection) It's a battle. Yet, we are SO HAPPY. The doctor said in three weeks we can go to a regular optometrist to see if a prescription will help him. We will remain faithful that it will. FOR THIS WE ARE THANKFUL!

Give Life: Be an Organ Donor

This is Paul Cardall. He is my FAVORITE musician. I have followed his story like Nie. He was within hours of death. While waiting for an organ his brother was tased in an unusual and needless event. He died. Paul was on the other side of organ donors. It helped him have even more compassion for the family and person that suffered loss. Now he lives a healthy life because of an organ donor. My friends son just went through surgery with the same disease. Paul was beside them through it. He is such an inspiration.

Thankful Thursday: For Generators

Yep, its a normal thing in Kansas to hear the roar of Generators sometime in the year. We had a mild winter. Spring has been pretty good. Until this week. Thirty Seven Tornado's spotted in Kansas on Monday. Not to mention the horrific tornado that took lives and devastated a few communities in Oklahoma (just 3 hours from us). Well last night, was just severe thunderstorms. After hearing the news--a few torando's touched down around us. Ahhhh --and what they call a straight line gust of wind hit the turnpike near our home. Blowing over 3 semi's into 10 power lines. We watched from our back door, emergency vehicles rushing to the scene. It was inevitable we would have NO POWER for some time. Not to worry. Mr. Clark hooked the generator up to our power box and WAMMO, we had power. Its just a must to have a generator. Otherwise our basement would be flooded right now. So THANKFUL

To my Friend that found out on Mothers Day her Mom has Cancer. "Somewhere"

"SOMEWHERE" from Lei,
Somewhere someone has just found out she is going to become a Mother. Somewhere someone has found out she won't. Somewhere a Mother is crying for the loss of a pregnancy. Somewhere a Mother isn't ready to be a Mother. Somewhere a Mother is giving birth. Somewhere a Mother is sleep deprived. Somewhere a Mother is staring into the eyes of a newborn. Somewhere a Mother is picking up cheerios up off the floor. Somewhere a Mother is making sacrifices. Somewhere a Mother is watching her baby learn to walk. Somewhere a Mother is gently cleaning a boo-boo and covering it with a band aid. Somewhere a Mother is rocking a sick child. Somewhere a Mother is finding out she has cancer. Somewhere a Mother is dying. Somewhere a Mother is caring for her own Mother. Somewhere a Mother is ready to give up. Somewhere a Mother is asking for help. Somewhere a Mother is cleaning the house. Somewhere a Mother is making a meal for her family. Somewhere a Mother has a family has finally found joy in the little things. Somewhere a Mother is teaching a Child. Somewhere a Mother is being taught. Somewhere a Mother is feeling proud. Somewhere a Mother is being humiliated in the grocery store by her toddler. Somewhere a Mother needs a break. Somewhere a Mother has found time for herself. Somewhere a mother is praying for her children. Somewhere a mother is praying for herself. Somewhere a Mother is worrying. Somewhere a Mother is doubting herself. Somewhere a Mother is paving the way. Somewhere a Mother is ready to take on the world. Somewhere a Mother is being criticized. Somewhere a Mother is loosing her inhibitions. Somewhere a Mother is feeling humbled. Somewhere a Mother is reaching out. Somewhere a Mother is helping another Mother. Somewhere a Mother is feeling unappreciated. Somewhere a Mother is crying. Somewhere a Mother needs to be held. Somewhere a Mother is -thinking of the future. Somewhere a Mother wonders how she is going to make it tomorrow. Somewhere a Mother is attending a graduation. Somewhere a Mother is planning a wedding. Somewhere a Mother is burying her child. Somewhere a Mother is watching her child be a Parent. Somewhere a Mother's long journey is coming to an end.
This is not always an easy day. Prayers to my friend in their suffering, grieving. Love you my friend.

Thankful Tuesday: for MUSIC

Since housing the missionaries for the 2 1/2 years I have played the radio (on my fav. country channel!) very rarely. The mission rules are: Missionaries can only listen to Mormon Tabernacle Choir or Gospel music. Especially since the Elders have been in our home we listened to this music constantly. The Boys have to always have music going. So when the Elders left our home. I thought WOW now I can listen to the radio. And somehow I couldn't do it in my home. Kinda felt wrong!!! The Spirit is different. I understand how the Elders have a hard time getting back to the world after they serve 2 years. I have a hard time listening to the radio unless its on a gospel channel. Oh, But I watch IDOL! So I guess that music on Tues. and Wednesday is playing on TV. I live in the Bible belt of the United States. We have AWESOME Gospel music playing on the radio always. I remember when I was looking for a home in Louisiana and our realtor didn't ever play any other channel than gospel music. She was so inspiring to me. A good example. I thought I was doing good to only play gospel music on the Sabbath. I have friends that only play gospel music in there cars as they travel. I get it! Not that I won't listen to any other music. I love the people I'm around. No one (no matter what their religion) keeps silent. They ALL openly praise his name. Not something I grew up with. They make a difference to me. Continually THANKFUL that we had the missionaries around us. Their spirit increased my spirit and their love of the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST increased my Love. FOR THIS I AM THANKFUL! From the Mormon Tabernacle Choir: MY MOM'S FAVORITE SONG: "O DIVINE REDEEMER." MY FATHERS FAVORITE SONG: " HOW GREAT THOU ART" MY FAVORITE SONG: " I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES"

My Prayer for my Mom on Mothers Day!

If roses grow in Heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mothers Arms
and tell her they're from me,
Tell her that I love and miss her.
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it everyday.
But there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away...
